A bass lake with something for everyone

Lake Anna gives largemouth a lot to live around: hundreds of docks, grass, rock, laydowns and timber, plus offshore structure that holds fish through summer. That variety is why the lake fishes well in every season, and why a trip here is as much about learning as it is about catching.
Our guides fish the lake in local and regional tournaments, so you are learning the patterns and decisions that hold up under pressure. Beginners get the fundamentals in a morning. Experienced anglers get a look at how the lake is really set up.

Season by season

Where the fish are and how we catch them through the year. Spring and fall are the peaks; summer and winter are quieter but can produce the biggest fish.

Spring

March to May, peak
Pre spawn through post spawn. We cover water with a chatterbait to find them, then slow down with a Neko rig on isolated stumps, hard structure and the ditches next to spawning areas.

Summer

June to August, good
Fish spread to docks, grass and offshore structure. Early starts, forward facing sonar and the hour before a storm produce the best bites. Half days beat the heat.

Fall

September to November, peak
Fish spread to docks, grass and offshore structure. Early starts, forward facing sonar and the hour before a storm produce the best bites. Half days beat the heat.

Winter

December to February, fair
Slower, but a big fish window. Jerkbaits and finesse presentations around deeper structure. Dress warm and be patient; the bites are worth it.

We throw whatever is working, but these are the techniques that consistently produce on Lake Anna, and the ones you will learn on the boat.

Skipping jigs under docks

Lake Anna is a dock lake. Skipping a jig into the shade is a year round producer and the skill guests most want to take home.

Forward facing

Shaking a minnow on LiveScope for suspended and offshore fish. If you want to learn electronics, book a lesson or a lake breakdown.

Topwater

When conditions line up in spring, summer mornings and fall, walking baits and poppers over flats and grass. Nothing beats the strike.

Drop shot

Finesse for tough days and pressured fish. Slow, precise and a great way to learn how bass relate to structure.

Half day if you are new, short on time or fishing with kids. Full day if you want to fish several patterns and areas.

Bass trip questions

Can we keep the bass we catch?
We are advocates for conservation, and harvesting fish helps keep a fishery healthy. Our only request is to release any largemouth over 16 inches, the tournament class fish we do not want to remove from the lake.
Bass trips run from high performance bass boats and involve constant casting, so we cap them at 3 to give everyone room to fish comfortably. Larger groups can book multiple boats and fish together.
Book a lake breakdown instead of a standard trip. You will cover productive areas, seasonal patterns and electronics with a guide who competes on the lake, and leave with a plan for your own boat.
